Elantra GT’s acclaimed sporty styling, crisp handling and spacious interior won’t break the bank either, as 2016 Elantra GT pricing will start at just $18,800, excluding $825 freight charge, and will be available in dealerships starting this March.

2016 Elantra GT Updates

  • Redesigned grille with horizontal chrome and argent slats
  • Newly styled 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Available Ventilated Driver’s and Passenger’s Seat (a segment first)
  • Available next-generation navigation with HD Radio and Apple Siri integration

STANDARD 2.0-LITER NU GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE
The 2016 Elantra GT comes standard with a 2.0-liter Nu engine mated to the choice of either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift control. Fuel is delivered by a high-pressure Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system, which helps improve engine response compared to non-GDI models. A shorter, more direct path of fuel delivery allows for greater control of the fuel mixture, thus improving efficiency. The fuel is injected by a camshaft-driven, high pressure pump that operates at pressures up to 2,175 psi. Direct injection also utilizes a higher than normal 11.5:1 compression ratio for increased power. The pistons are “dished” to increase combustion efficiency in the cylinder. This high-tech, all-aluminum engine also has Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (DCVVT) and a Variable Induction System (VIS) for better engine breathing. A lightweight intake manifold also reduces weight by 30 percent over a cast unit. Power is rated at 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at a 4,700 rpm. The 2.0-liter Nu has been tuned to provide more torque at 1,500 rpm than the 1.8-liter Nu previously available on the Elantra GT and currently available on the Elantra Sedan. The engine also produces more torque – from 4,000 rpm to 5,500 rpm – for impressive linear power delivery all the way to redline. The engine delivers an impressive EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 24 mpg city/33 mpg highway/27 mpg.

‘FLUIDIC SCULPTURE’ DESIGN LANGUAGE

2016 Elantra GT Side

Hyundai is known for its defining and distinctive ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language. The ‘Fluidic’ essence provides the Elantra GT with a slippery .30 coefficient of drag. Everything about Elantra GT is aerodynamic from the aggressive profile and low overall height, to the sleek side mirrors. Tire gaps are minimized while rocker panels are streamlined. Lower wind resistance translates into a smoother and quieter ride.

2016 Hyundai Elantra GT Front 34

Up front, Elantra GT’s revised front grille adds a distinctive and assertive look more consistent with Hyundai’s newer models. Its sporty look is further complemented with wrap-around headlamps and sculptured hood creases. The body-side graphic features a chrome beltline molding to keep up with the sleek character lines. Sharp projector headlamps, available fog lights and all-new 17-inch euroflange alloy wheels complete the modern design. It’s all finished off in the rear with available LED taillights.

LOW CURB WEIGHT
Elantra GT’s widespread use of high-strength steel results in a lower curb weight and allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,904 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GT is lighter than most of its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Mazda3 and Golf. Elantra GT is 44 pounds lighter than Focus and 119 pounds lighter than Golf 5-door.

SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSIONS
The Elantra GT can be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual shift mode. The six-speed automatic includes an overdrive lock-up torque converter for higher fuel economy at freeway speeds. Elantra GT’s six-speed manual transmission provides short, crisp shifts and further optimizes engine performance thanks to triple-cone synchronizers for first and second gears, double-cone for third gear and single-cone for fourth, fifth and sixth gears. Also, an upshift indicator in the instrument panel identifies the ideal shift points to save fuel.

INTERIOR SPACE AND PRACTICALITY

2016 Elantra GT Interior

Maximizing interior volume and delighting customers with various seating layouts are hallmarks of Hyundai engineering and translate into more cabin room, cargo space and versatility. The Elantra GT features seating layouts that can comfortably seat five people or accommodate four passengers, plus long items like golf clubs or snowboards. Drivers may opt to fold down two seats to seat three people and hold larger packages or fold down all of the back seats to get CUV-sized cargo space. The rear seats can fold completely flat by first folding the lower seat cushion upward. These options allow customers to discover that Elantra GT has more interior volume than Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf and even more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke crossover, thanks to the fold-flat rear seats. Elantra GT also features the best front and rear shoulder room in its class.

The Elantra GT includes a number of convenient, standard stowage and storage features, including a sunglasses holder, two front and two rear cup holders, door bottle holders, cooled glove compartment, central console storage, sliding armrest, front storage tray and front seatback pockets. The cargo area also has a 12-volt outlet for passengers who desire to plug in their portable electronic devices.

RIDE AND HANDLING
Elantra GT is fitted with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is comprised of a lightweight coupled torsion beam for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers. A 22mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Elantra GT is tuned for added feel, responsiveness and control, while the Elantra Sedan is tuned for comfort. Modifications to the GT include higher rear spring rates, a stiffer twist beam and Sachs dampers for improved body motion control. These changes create driving dynamics which are sporty and comfortable. In addition, two suspension packages were developed to optimize tuning for the two different tire sizes. The Elantra GT’s Style package offers a sportier suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tire.

2016 Hyundai Elantra GT Side motion

Behind the wheel, drivers benefit from Hyundai’s Driver Selectable Steering Mode, which has been enhanced with a 32-bit processing system and tuned for better steering feel for the 2016 model year. With three operating modes to select – Comfort, Normal and Sport – this innovative system allows drivers to adapt Elantra GT steering characteristics to varying driving preferences and road conditions any time they choose. ‘Comfort’ offers the greatest ease of steering and is ideal for city and parking environments. ‘Sport’ is optimized for higher-speed highways or winding roads, while ‘Normal’ is ideal for a mix of driving conditions. The Driver Selectable Steering Mode adjusts power assistance levels in each mode and moderates on-center feel and steering build-up curves throughout the steering range, allowing for a very natural, progressive feel. Steering damping characteristics, active return gain and high frequency friction levels have also been optimized for Elantra GT in this system. Even more, Elantra GT’s turning diameter of 34.8 feet is better than Focus and Golf.

OVERALL DIMENSIONS
Elantra GT rides on a 104.3-inch wheelbase and has an overall length of 169.3 inches. The height is 57.9 inches and the width is 70.1 inches.

CABIN REFINEMENT

Hyundai Motor America Launches 2014 Elantra GT AT Los Angeles Auto Show

New Standard Torque-Rich 2.0-liter Gasoline Direct Injection Engine Builds Performance Credentials

2014 Hyundai Elantra GT Exterior

Hyundai Motor America introduced the refreshed 2014 Elantra GT in a North American debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show today. The 2014 Elantra GT adds a more powerful engine to a model known for its design, five-door functionality, sophisticated suspension tuning and interior space. Hyundai upped both the horsepower and torque on the refreshed Elantra GT to make it even more fun to drive. The GT now includes a standard 2.0-liter Nu Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine, which adds 25 more horsepower (+17 percent) and 23 lb.-ft. of torque (+18 percent) from the prior model year. This powertrain in the Elantra GT produces 173 horsepower available at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque on tap at 4,700 rpm. With these gains along with a low curb weight, Elantra GT can now boast the best power-to-weight ratio and specific output in the segment. Furthermore, Elantra GT now produces more horsepower than the Subaru Impreza, Ford Focus, Mazda3 five-door and Volkswagen Golf five-door. To sharpen the look of the 2014 Elantra GT, Hyundai engineers added LED taillights. To improve visibility a new integrated driver’s blind spot mirror was also added. The 2014 Elantra GT goes on sale in December. New for 2014:

  • 2.0-liter Nu GDI inline four-cylinder engine replaces 1.8-liter Nu Multi Port Injection (MPI) engine
    • Horsepower: 173 at 6,500 rpm
    • Torque: 154 lb.-ft. at 4,700 rpm
    • Best power-to-weight ratio in the segment
    • Best-in-class specific output
  • Driver’s blind spot mirror
  • New available premium feature: LED taillights

HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2014 ELANTRA GT

  • ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design
  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • More passenger and cargo volume than Focus, Mazda3 and Golf
  • Driver knee airbag — an Elantra first
  • Hidden rear camera
  • More aerodynamic than Impreza or Golf

TORQUE-RICH 2.0-LITER NU GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE

The 2014 Elantra GT enjoys the more powerful 2.0-liter Nu engine. Fuel is delivered to the 2.0-liter Nu by a high-pressure Gasoline Direct Injection, which contributes to improved engine response. Power is rated at 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at a 4,700 rpm, which is a significant improvement compared to the 2013 Elantra GT’s 1.8-liter engine that developed 148 horsepower and 131 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.0-liter Nu has been tuned to provide more torque at 1,500 rpm than the outgoing 1.8-liter Nu. The engine also delivers more torque – from 4,000 rpm to 5,500 rpm – for impressive linear power delivery all the way up to redline.

2014 2.0-liter Nu GDI engine compared WITH 2013 1.8-liter Nu MPI engine

2014 Hyundai Elantra GT Fuel Economy

This powerplant delivers an impressive 24 mpg city/33 highway EPA estimated fuel economy rating with the available six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC®. (When equipped with the six-speed manual, the Elantra GT achieves 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway EPA estimated fuel economy rating).

Horsepower Torque
2013 Elantra GT 148 hp 131 lb.-ft.
2014 Elantra GT 173 hp 154lb.-ft.

The performance gains were achieved by stroking the engine from 87.2 mm to 97 mm to increase the displacement of the engine from 1.8 liters to 2.0 liters and equipping it with a GDI fuel delivery system instead of a MPI fuel delivery system. This high-tech, all-aluminum engine also has Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (DCVVT) and a Variable Induction System (VIS) for better engine breathing. A lightweight intake manifold also reduces weight by 30 percent over a cast unit. The aluminum “bed plate” located below the cylinder block reduces engine NVH levels and improves block rigidity by 30 percent.

THE BENEFITS OF GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION

This shorter, more direct path of fuel delivery allows for greater control of the fuel mixture at the optimum moment, thus improving efficiency. The fuel is injected by a camshaft-driven, high pressure pump that operates at pressures up to 2,175 psi. Direct injection also utilizes a higher than normal 11.5:1 compression ratio for increased power. The pistons are “dished” to increase combustion efficiency in the cylinder.

‘FLUIDIC SCULPTURE’ DESIGN

The ‘Fluidic’ essence provides the Elantra GT with a slippery .30 coefficient of drag. Everything about Elantra GT is aerodynamic from the aggressive profile and low overall height, to the sleek side mirrors. Tire gaps are minimized while rocker panels are streamlined. Lower wind resistance translates into a smoother ride.

Up front, Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille with chrome accents flows into the hood. The bodyside graphic features a chrome beltline molding to keep up with the sleek character lines. Sharp projection headlamps, fog lights and available 17-inch alloy wheels with chrome spears complete the modern design. It’s all finished off in the rear with the new available LED taillights.

THE BENEFITS OF A LOW CURB WEIGHT IN THE COMPACT SEGMENT

Elantra GT’s widespread use of high-strength steel allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,908 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GT is lighter than most of its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Mazda3 and Golf. Elantra GT is 40 pounds lighter than Focus and 194 pounds lighter than Golf.

SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSIONS

The Elantra GT can be equipped with a six-speed manual (M6CF3-1) or automatic (A6GF1) transaxle with SHIFTRONIC® manual control. Elantra GT’s six-speed manual transmission provides short, crisp shifts and further optimizes engine performance. These crisp shifts are courtesy of triple-cone synchronizers for first and second gears, double-cone for third gear and single-cone for fourth, fifth and sixth gears.

INTERIOR SPACE AND PRACTICALITY

Maximizing interior volume and delighting customers with various seating layouts are hallmarks of Hyundai engineering and translate into more cabin room, cargo space and versatility. The Elantra GT features seating layouts that can comfortably seat five people or accommodate four passengers, plus long items like golf clubs or snowboards. Fold down two seats to seat three people and hold larger packages or fold down all of the back seats to get CUV-sized cargo space. These options allow customers to discover that Elantra GT has more interior volume than Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf and even more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke crossover, thanks to fold-flat rear seats and rear seat cushions that can flip upward. The Elantra GT includes a number of convenient, standard stowage and storage features, including a sunglasses holder, two front and two rear cup holders, door bottle holders, cooled glove compartment, central console storage, sliding armrest, front storage tray and front seatback pockets. The cargo area also has a 12-volt outlet for consumers who desire to plug in their portable electronic devices.

ELANTRA GT ARCHITECTURE

Elantra GT is fitted with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is comprised of a light weight coupled torsion beam for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers. A 22 mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Behind the wheel, drivers benefit from Hyundai’s Driver Selectable Steering Mode. With three operating modes to select — Comfort, Normal and Sport — this innovative system allows drivers to adapt Elantra GT steering characteristics to varying driving preferences and road conditions any time they choose. Comfort level offers the greatest ease of steering and is ideal for city and parking environments. Sport is optimized for higher-speed highways or winding roads, while Normal is ideal for a mix of driving conditions. The Driver Selectable Steering Mode adjusts power assistance levels in each mode and moderates on-center build-up feel and steering build-up curves throughout the steering range, allowing for a very natural, progressive feel. Steering damping characteristics, active return gain and high frequency friction levels have also been optimized for Elantra GT in this system. Even more, Elantra GT’s turning diameter of 34.8 feet is better than Focus and Golf.

OVERALL DIMENSIONS

The Elantra GT rides on a 104.3-inch wheelbase and has an overall length of 169.3 inches. The height is 57.9 inches and the width is 70.1 inches.

CABIN REFINEMENT

Cabin refinements on the Elantra GT are inspired by the high standards of the entire Hyundai lineup. Located in the center console, the available navigation system is displayed via a seven-inch touch-screen and incorporates the rearview camera screen. Elantra GT’s rearview camera is like no other. This mechanized camera is hidden behind the Hyundai flying H badge on the rear hatch and only appears when needed. Dual-zone climate controls ensure a comfortable environment for all occupants during long journeys, and the addition of a panoramic sunroof provides increased natural light within the cabin. The Dual-zone climate controls also incorporate an automatic defogging system, which detects humidity levels using a sensor and removes it from the windshield. Another premium feature in the Elantra GT is a CleanAir Ionizer that automatically cleans the air when the heater or air conditioner is running. Elantra GT comes standard with a 172-watt AM/FM/Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with six-speakers and iPod®/USB/auxiliary input jacks. A Bluetooth interface is also standard. The sound system plays CDs, accesses digital music files via Bluetooth streaming audio or allows driver and passenger to access their personal listening devices through the iPod/USB/auxiliary inputs. The SiriusXM Satellite Radio interface is also integrated into the navigation unit and features channel logos, real-time NavTraffic and Data services, such as NavWeather®, Stock Ticker and Sports Ticker. Users can even upload personal pictures from a USB rather than a CD to be displayed on the system’s home screen. Elantra GT offers many premium features, such as:

ASSERTIVE EXTERIOR DESIGN

Flowing curves and strong character lines highlight the broad stance and long wheelbase of the Elantra Touring. The clearly defined, unbroken, rising beltline unifies the vehicle’s functional proportions. The effect is an exciting shape that provides a dynamic impression of performance and capability. Elantra Touring has a low coefficient of drag for optimal fuel efficiency at highway speeds and minimal interior noise.

Up front, the pronounced dual air intakes flow smoothly into the hood and A-pillar lines. Sharp projection headlamps, available fog lights and available 17-inch alloy wheels complete the modern design.

ROOMY AND REFINED INTERIOR

The long wheelbase and generous width of the Elantra Touring, combined with Hyundai’s expertise in interior packaging, produce an interior that delivers class-leading comfort, functionality and practicality. At 125.5 cubic feet, the Elantra Touring has the most interior volume (passenger volume plus cargo space) of any five-door in its class. In fact, Elantra Touring’s cargo capacity is 65.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, resulting in more cargo space than any other five-door in its class.

The clarity of the instruments, optional B&M Racing sport shifter (M/T) and tilt and telescopic steering wheel contribute to a superior driving experience. For extra clarity, Hyundai’s signature blue LCD lighting technology has been used for the central information display and gauge cluster. Two-tone beige interior trim, delivers a premium feel. Black and beige are the two interior color choices.

The Elantra Touring offers XM Satellite Radio® and iPod®/USB auxiliary inputs as standard equipment. The inputs are located in the center storage compartment assuring iPods are safely stowed out of sight.

INTELLIGENT ERGONOMICS

With its cutting-edge designs, Hyundai has proven through the years that vehicles do not need to be large to feel spacious, nor carry a premium price when offering intelligently designed interior cabins. The Elantra Touring is just the latest expression of this thoughtful approach, incorporating a telescopic steering wheel, conveniently located steering wheel audio/cruise controls and column stalks, easy-to-reach heating and air conditioning knobs, as well as conveniently positioned power windows and mirror controls. Even the positioning and precise feel of the automatic gearshift has been optimized. The integrated 172-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system, map pockets and other storage areas round out the conveniently and intelligently designed interior.

The front seats are designed to complement the driving dynamics of the vehicle, and carefully contoured rear seats provide long distance comfort and support. Hyundai engineers focused not just on the seats’ form and function, but also on the stitching, materials and bolstering. The available eight-way driver’s seat includes height adjustment and lumbar support.

IMPRESSIVE PACKAGE EFFICIENCY

Elantra Touring’s exterior dimensions (176.6 inches long, 69.5 inches wide and 59.8 inches high) make it a great fit in the compact five-door segment, while its long wheelbase (106.3 inches) means that Elantra Touring offers class-leading interior volume. Every Elantra Touring has 60/40 split folding rear seats for added storage, functionality and practicality.

The Elantra Touring matches best-in-class passenger volume with best-in-class cargo capacity. Features include a useful 24.3 cubic feet of luggage space with rear seats upright and a cavernous 65.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. As in any Hyundai, the utility and convenience in the Elantra Touring has not been overlooked, with a stow-and-go removable luggage cover that stores conveniently out-of-site under the trunk area. An optional restraining net is also offered. The available silver roof rails are designed to accommodate a rack system to take Elantra Touring’s utility to an even higher level.

Elantra Touring includes a number of convenient and standard storage features, including a sunglass holder, two front and two rear cupholders, door bottle holders, dash storage, central console storage, front storage tray, and a cargo area under-floor storage. For tailgaters, the cargo area also has a 12-volt outlet for using portable electronic devices, even when the vehicle is not on.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Elantra Touring is powered by a 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder. This sophisticated 16-valve powerplant employs Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC) and Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) for a very broad power band, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. Elantra Touring is certified as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).

TRANSMITTING THE POWER

An ergonomically located gated gear shift controls the Elantra Touring’s four-speed automatic transmission delivering confident mode selection. A unique-in-segment optional B&M Racing sport shifter delivers smooth, short-throw shift control for the standard five-speed manual transmission.

AGILE STEERING, SUSPENSION AND BRAKING

The Hyundai Elantra Touring offers a dynamic driving experience. A MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension have been fitted to perfectly complement the body structure’s high rigidity. Ventilated 11.8-inch front and solid 10.3-inch rear discs with ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) provide excellent stopping power with added handling control.

Elantra Touring’s steering character is another key driver of its driving nature. Hyundai chassis engineers focused on delivering an agile feel, with direct responses to driver inputs. All drivers will appreciate Elantra Touring’s nimble turning diameter – at 34.2 feet it is better than Volkswagen Golf’s 35.7 feet and Toyota Matrix’s 36.0 feet.

ADVANCED STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES

Like every Hyundai, top-tier safety was a key development goal for the Elantra Touring, which is fully equipped to protect driver and passengers. In terms of passive safety, it features dual front, side and curtain airbags, for a total of six protective airbags in the vehicle. The Elantra Touring also features active front head restraints, seatbelt pretensioners and a seatbelt reminder. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 52 percent, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Also according to the IIHS, active front head restraints improve rear crash protection.

Elantra Touring comes standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies. National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) studies show passenger cars equipped with ESC experience 30 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes.

2011 Elantra Touring Adds Value and Convenience Features

2011 Elantra Touring Adds Value and Convenience Features

Elantra Touring, one of best bargains in the industry, gets even better for 2011 by adding leather seating surfaces to the SE model and “EZ Lane Change Assist” to all trim levels. The enhanced 2011 Elantra Touring hits dealerships this summer.

NEW EQUIPMENT HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2011

* Standard leather seating surfaces on Elantra Touring SE

* Standard “EZ Lane Change Assist” – one touch triple turn signal stalks on all trim levels

* Standard headlight welcome function on all trim levels

* Three new colors, including Atlantic Blue, Shimmering Silver and Titanium Gray Metallic

* Available roof rails are now silver (replacing black)

* Available roof rack cross rails (port installed)

* Available rear bumper protector (port installed)

ELANTRA TOURING GLS – THE GOOD STUFF COMES STANDARD

Elantra Touring GLS adds a new feature to build on Hyundai’s reputation for offering loads of standard equipment. The headlight welcome function works when the driver presses open on the remote keyless entry illuminating the headlights. This new convenience feature is helpful at night in crowded stadium parking lots. To help notify other drivers of an upcoming lane change, Hyundai has added “EZ Lane Change Assist” (one-touch triple turn signal stalks). Slight movement of this new stalk will cause the turn signals to blink three times and then automatically go off – an ideal feature for highway passing.

Elantra Touring GLS continues to offer standard air conditioning, power windows, heated mirrors, power door locks, remote keyless entry with alarm and plenty of storage compartments including a cooled glovebox. The Elantra Touring also offers standard advanced safety technologies including Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

For audiophiles, an integrated 172-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers and iPod/USB/Auxiliary inputs is standard.

The optional Popular Equipment Package on the GLS adds new silver roof rails, a telescopic steering wheel, trip computer, steering wheel mounted audio controls, eight-way driver’s seat with lumbar support, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, sliding sunvisors, seatback pockets, retractable cargo cover, illuminated ignition and premium cloth interior. Cruise control is also standard on all GLS models equipped with automatic transmissions.

ELANTRA SE – ADDING A SPORTY FLAVOR

The sport-oriented SE adds all the equipment in the GLS Popular Equipment Package plus new standard leather seats, heated front seats, a power sunroof with tilt and slide functions, leather steering wheel and shift knob, B&M Racing sport shifter (M/T), fog lights and 17-inch alloy wheels with P215/45R17 tires.

DEVELOPMENT

The Elantra Touring, with its modern, sleek styling and fun-to-drive qualities, was developed by Hyundai in response to the growing demand for stylish and functional five-door vehicles. As with all Hyundai vehicles, the Elantra Touring was designed and manufactured to meet the most stringent quality standards in the industry, exemplifying Hyundai’s quality leadership position worldwide.

The long wheelbase and generous width of the Elantra Touring, combined with Hyundai’s expertise in interior packaging, have produced an interior that delivers class-leading comfort, functionality and practicality. At 125.5 cubic feet, the Elantra Touring has the most interior volume (passenger volume plus cargo space) of any five-door in its class*. In fact, Elantra Touring’s cargo capacity is 65.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down, resulting in more cargo space than other five-doors in its class.

The clarity of the instruments, optional B&M Racing sport shifter (M/T) and tilt and telescopic steering wheel contribute to a superior driving experience. For extra clarity, Hyundai’s signature blue LCD lighting technology has been used for the central information display and gauge cluster. Two-tone beige interior trim, with special attention to the upholstery, delivers a premium feel. Black and beige are the two interior color choices.

The Elantra Touring was the first compact five-door to offer XM Satellite Radio® and iPod®/USB auxiliary inputs as standard equipment. When an iPod or flash drive is connected through the USB port not only does it play music through the vehicle’s six-speaker audio system, but it also charges the iPod and allows the driver to access tracks with the steering wheel audio controls. This system also allows both driver and passengers to easily view song/artist/title information and control the music from the audio head unit or steering wheel audio controls rather than from the iPod itself. The center storage compartment location of the iPod/USB auxiliary inputs assures that iPods can be safely stowed out of sight.

INTELLIGENT ERGONOMICS

With its leading-edge designs, Hyundai has proven through the years that vehicles do not need to be large to feel spacious, nor carry a premium price when offering intelligently designed interior cabins. The integrated 172-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system, map pockets and other storage areas round out the conveniently and intelligently designed interior space.

Sporty front seats, designed to complement the driving dynamics of the vehicle, and carefully contoured rear seats, provide long distance comfort and support. Hyundai engineers focused not just on the seats’ form and function, but also on the stitching, materials and bolstering. The available eight-way driver’s seat includes height adjustment and lumbar support.

IMPRESSIVE PACKAGE EFFICIENCY

The Elantra Touring’s exterior dimensions (176.2 inches long, 69.5 inches wide and 59.8 inches high) make it a great fit in the compact five-door segment, while its long wheelbase (106.3 inches) means that Elantra Touring offers class-leading interior volume.

As in any Hyundai, the utility and convenience in the Elantra Touring has not been overlooked, with a stow-and-go removable luggage cover that stores conveniently out-of-site under the trunk area compartment. An optional restraining net is also offered. The available silver roof rails are designed to accommodate lifestyle oriented rack systems to take Elantra Touring’s utility to an even higher level.

The Elantra Touring includes a number of convenient and standard storage features, including a sunglass holder, two front and two rear cupholders, door bottle holders, dash storage, central console storage, front storage tray, and a cargo area under-floor storage. For tailgaters, the cargo area also has a 12-volt outlet, where the vehicle does not have to be turned on, for portable electronic devices.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Elantra Touring is powered by the same fuel-efficient 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder found in the Elantra sedan. With a manual transmission, the Elantra Touring’s EPA mileage is 23 mpg City and 31 mpg Highway. With the optional four-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra Touring’s EPA rating is 23 mpg City and 30 mpg Highway.

TRANSMITTING THE POWER

Hyundai understands that performance means more than just engine output, which is why transmission choices have been optimized for real driving satisfaction.

An ergonomically located gated gear shift controls the Elantra Touring’s four-speed automatic transmission delivering confident mode selection. A unique-in-segment optional B&M Racing sport shifter delivers smooth, short-throw shift control for the standard five-speed manual transmission.

AGILE STEERING, SUSPENSION AND BRAKING

The Hyundai Elantra Touring offers a dynamic driving experience. A MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension have been fitted to perfectly complement the body structure’s high rigidity. Ventilated 11.8-inch front and solid 10.3-inch rear discs with ABS and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) provide excellent stopping power with added handling control.

Elantra Touring delivers high performance steering and adds unique springs, front and rear stabilizer bars and dampers. Elantra Touring features a 24 percent stiffer front spring rate, a 39 percent stiffer rear spring rate, a larger front stabilizer bar (24 mm) and larger rear stabilizer bar (21mm) than the 2010 Elantra sedan. The 17-inch alloy wheels, with ultra-low profile tires, add visual impact and extra grip to the Elantra Touring’s sporty dynamics.

Elantra Touring’s steering character is another key driver of its sporty driving nature. Hyundai chassis engineers focused on delivering an agile feel, with direct responses to driver inputs. That spirit translates to a fun-to-drive character in everyday driving situations. And all drivers will appreciate Elantra Touring’s nimble turning diameter – at 34.2 feet it is better than Volkswagen Golf’s 35.7 feet and Toyota Matrix’s 36.0 feet.

These passive safety technologies are fully grounded in a state-of-the-art body structure, which includes deformable zones, occupant protection cell and three-way load distribution technology. Further rigidity has been achieved with reinforced A pillars, strengthened bulkhead, front and side members, and strengthened B and C pillars.

All Elantra Tourings come standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies. ESC compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual response. It then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer. National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) studies show passenger cars equipped with ESC experience 30 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes.

In developing and refining the safety features of the Elantra Touring, Hyundai employed advanced design systems and sophisticated computer simulation, combined with intensive component testing. This is a process used in the development of all Hyundai vehicles. From drawing board and prototype testing to final product development, Hyundai uses this extensive process to assure that all its vehicles – including the Elantra Touring – meet or exceed government safety standards, as well as the expectations of vehicle buyers.
